Product Description:

In this recorded seminar, experienced family law practitioners cover every aspect of dissolution procedure in Washington. Two things distinguish it from being just a procedural primer. One is its focus on representation of a low-bono client in a dissolution proceeding. The other is its recognition of the stress of family law practice on the practitioner and the faculty’s candid sharing of practical strategies for coping with stress.

Topics include:
  • An overview of the law governing dissolution in Washington and other areas of law – like tax, bankruptcy, and business – that are frequently intertwined.
  • How to conduct an effective client intake interview that elicits all the information required in the petition for dissolution.
  • How to file the petition – including E-filing – and how that differs in significant ways in different Washington counties
  • Temporary orders and parenting plans: getting these critical documents right.
  • Identifying and classifying property as separate or community for division purposes.
  • How to take care of yourself so you can take care of your clients, including:
    • Assessing whether the case – and the client – is manageable;
    • Dealing with highly stressed and high-conflict personalities;
    • De-escalating difficult situations
