Indian law issues arise more frequently in Washington state courts than many practitioners realize—and they are often dispositive. This program equips civil and criminal practitioners with a practical framework for identifying when a case implicates tribal sovereignty, federal Indian and Tribal law, or overlapping state, federal, and tribal jurisdiction. Participants will learn to recognize common triggers such as land status, party status, and Public Law 280 considerations, and will leave with the tools to ask the right threshold questions early to ensure cases proceed in the proper forum.
