Developed in partnership with the WSBA International Practice Section
This session will provide a practical and up-to-date overview of how to obtain patent protection for software-related and AI-based inventions before the European Patent Office (EPO). We will discuss the legal framework and examination approach applied by the EPO, including technicality requirements, inventive step assessment for computer-implemented inventions, and emerging trends in the treatment of AI technologies. The presentation will also cover effective prosecution strategies, pitfalls to avoid and real-world examples. Participants will gain insights into how to position software and AI innovations for maximum patent eligibility and protection in Europe.
