Practicing law can be psychologically debilitating. We work in a toxic stew of conflict, aggression, blame, and inadequacy. And we are finally acknowledging that lawyers suffer the highest rates of alcohol and substance abuse of any profession, which masks our underlying anxiety and depression. Yet when we entered law school, our rates of substance abuse and mental illness were lower than the general population. What if our jobs are making us sick? Shouldn’t we do something about it as a profession?
In this one-hour CLE, we will take an honest look at the occupational hazards of practicing law. We will also begin the discussion of how to protect ourselves individually and as a profession. It may not make you rich, famous, or successful, but it will keep you sane.
