Rule of Law and Constitutional Crises for Lawyer Ambassadors (May 2025)

  • ON-DEMAND SEMINAR

This on-demand CLE focuses on the Rule of Law in our constitutional democracy, threats to an independent judiciary and legal profession, and how to best communicate to the public about these important topics.

The CLE is meant to fit in with the WSBA’s “Rule of Law Ambassadors” program. This program is designed to support and equip lawyers to fulfill their responsibility to educate and engage with their local communities. The CLE serves in part to help train volunteer “Ambassadors,” but any lawyer is welcome to view.

This short CLE will cover the following topics:

  • A constitutional law refresher, focusing on separation of powers and the independence of the judicial branch.
  • What’s meant by the concept of “Rule of Law.”
  • What’s a “constitutional crisis” and how do you know that we’re in one (or not).
  • Legal professionals as guardians of the legal system.
  • How to communicate with the public about the rule of law and the courts.
