GR 33 Disability Accommodations in Court (Legal Lunchbox™ Series January 2026)

  • ON-DEMAND SEMINAR

Presented in collaboration with the WSBA Equity & Justice Team

This session provides attorneys and courts with a practical overview of Washington’s General Rule 33 (GR 33), which governs requests for disability accommodations in court proceedings. We will discuss how attorneys can effectively make and respond to requests, and how courts can evaluate and implement them consistently. Insights from the Administrative Office of the Courts Disability Justice Task Force study will highlight current challenges and opportunities for improvement. The session will also clarify documentation standards, undue burden, ex parte communication, and Washington’s unique provision allowing appointment of counsel in civil cases.
