This CLE focuses on the Rule of Law in our constitutional democracy, threats to an independent judiciary and legal profession, and how to best communicate to the public about these important topics.
The CLE is meant to fit in with the WSBA’s “Rule of Law Ambassadors” program. See: Rule of Law Ambassador Program, a program designed to support and equip lawyers to fulfill their responsibility to educate and engage with their local communities. The May 6 CLE serves in part to help train volunteer “Ambassadors,” but any legal professional is welcome to attend.
This short CLE will cover the following topics:
- A constitutional law refresher, focusing on separation of powers and the independence of the judicial branch.
- What’s meant by the concept of “Rule of Law.”
- What’s a “constitutional crisis” and how do you know that we’re in one (or not).
- Legal professionalsas guardians of the legal system.
- How to communicate with the public about the rule of law and the courts.

to the start of the event. For in-person registrations, tuition fees may be refunded, less $25 for processing, for written cancellations
postmarked, emailed, or faxed by 5 p.m. up to three business days before the event. No refunds will be provided after the dates specified. You
may also send a substitute in lieu of canceling.
