SCHOLARSHIPS
Criteria and Guidelines:
The WSBA Criminal Law Section will award up to 10 tuition scholarships for the 2025 Criminal Justice Institute. 

  • Five of the scholarships will be awarded to attorneys who are full-time prosecutors or who are closely affiliated with law enforcement.
  • Five of the scholarships will be awarded to attorneys who spend 80% or more of their practice dedicated to criminal defense.

Each tuition scholarship recipient will receive a complimentary registration to the program ($275 Standard / $245 Criminal Law Section Members).  To be eligible for the scholarship, individuals must meet the following criteria:

(a) Be an attorney who is currently a member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association, and
(b) Submit an electronic Letter of Interest and resume. The applicants should demonstrate or explain a financial need for the scholarship in their request and confirm if they are prosecution or defense.

The selection process will consider broad geographic distribution so as to provide access to those in all areas of the state. Applications must be received no later than 5:00pm PDT on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. All scholarship awardees will be notified by a representative of the Criminal Law Section by Tuesday, September 9, 2025. If you plan to apply for a scholarship, please wait to register for the Institute until awardees have been notified on that date. If you do not receive notice of receiving a scholarship by that date, you will not receive further notice and should make alternative plans for program registration.
