Explore implicit bias in the practice of law and how it relates to the practice of law by in-house counsel. George's presentation begins with a brief history lesson on the creation and implementation of the Bar exam in the United States and how those barriers still impact law students and attorneys today. From there, George will speak on the current statistics of law students and attorneys and how the Bar remains as a barrier despite small changes being made over the last 90+ years. This presentation focuses on examples of how in-house counsel can combat implicit bias in everyday practice of law, touching on employment law and internal investigations and recruiting processes; contract law and the power of vendor selection; and the power of being the corporate client's counsel.
