The increased societal visibility of transgender children and how to best support them has placed the topic of gender inclusion squarely on our nation’s table. While there is a growing consensus from healthcare professionals that these children need support, the pathways forward are still being defined and honed. The pivotal adults in a child’s life are often hard-pressed to understand the needs of their children. Their teachers, guardians, case workers, and others can be equally challenged, and all can find themselves attempting to address the concerns and fears of others. With resources difficult to find or conflicting in nature, societal volatility ramps up unchecked. This session will provide an overview of the many considerations – familial, medical, political, cultural, religious, and educational – that adults face while seeking to best support the needs of the child.
